COMIC BOOK BIN (through Christopher Moshier): Tell us about yourself and give us a little background on Third Floor Productions?
Sean Rourke: Yeah, Third Floor Productions was started by Bill, Kyle and myself (Bill's idea...gotta give him credit.) Basically, Bill got me and Kyle together in a room one night a couple years ago and said, "Hey, you guys should really checkout this thing they just released called Quicktime 4..." That was the inception of us as a production company, and Amanda Hades came about a few months later. The three of us all went to film school together at the College of Santa Fe, and Bill and I both lived on the third floor of our dorm. That's where he came up with the idea for the name. Since we began almost 3 years ago, Bridgitte, Matt, and Steph (also former classmates of ours,) and Brian Stevenson, have all come on board as regulars.
We started out with almost nothing. We were borrowing another classmate's Canon XL1, (the only choice for Mini-DV production,) we were borrowing lights, grip equipment, sound, etc. The only thing I think we actually owned were the bounce cards Bill had purchased back in school. We shot our whole first episode over Thanksgiving weekend in '99, and when we were done, we didn't even have a computer to edit on or do web-design with.
Now, 3 years into it, after scraping together what money we could, we own most of our own stuff. We bought our friend's XL1, as well as a bunch of sound and lighting stuff, and we all have G4s that we use for post production and Graphic Design. (For the techies out there, we use FINAL CUT PRO for editing, PHOTOSHOP for graphic design, and Softpress Freeway for Web Design.)
Basically, as far as what we're all about...we're a group of friends with varying skill sets in production, and we LOVE working together. We have a lot of fun, and since it's our show (for the time being) we get to do whatever we want!
