Electronic
Arts announced today that
Mirror's Edge
and
FaceBreaker K.O. Party
have
shipped to retailers for release this week. Releasing for Xbox 360
and Playstation 3, and on PC in January 2009,
Mirror's
Edge
is a hyper-realistic first
person action/platformer that will have you traversing city
landscapes like never before. In
Mirror's Edge
you
play as Faith, a “runner” in a city where information and
communication are highly monitored. Faith must get information
packages around the city by jumping rooftops, squeezing her way
through narrow passages and finding any route that can get her to her
drop point with speed. When Faith's sister gets framed for murder
though, Faith finds herself on the run for her life.
“
We
set out to create a game unlike any other; from the core gameplay
controls to the main character and the look of the world, we wanted
to give gamers a new experience,” said Owen O’Brien, Senior
Producer at DICE. “We’re eager for players to experience what
true first-person movement feels like in a game. Faith is a very
human heroine with no super powers or even a weapon that has been put
in an extraordinary situation where she must rely on her agility,
intelligence and strength to stay alive.”

What's
interesting about the combat in
Mirror's
Edge
is
that, for the most part, you don't fight to kill, but to disarm,
disable and then move on. If you haven't tried out the game's demo
yet, you don't know what you're missing.
Mirror's
Edge
will
be available when it arrives at retailers worldwide this week, for
$59.99 USD/CAD and is rated T for Teen/16+. DICE has also announced
that it is currently developing downloadable content that will be
available at the beginning of 2009, with more details to be announced
soon.

FaceBreaker
K.O. Party
also
shipped today. This Wii version of EA's new arcade-style boxing
franchise, from the EA SPORTS Freestyle brand, will have you sweating
up a storm that could put
Wii
Sports Boxing
to
shame.
FaceBreaker K.O. Party
will
drop you into a highly stylized world where every punch you land will
show on your opponent. With this version's intuitive controls, thanks
to the Wii Remote and Nunchuck's motion sensing capabilities, players
of all skill levels will be able to pummel the snot out of their
opponents with relative ease.
FaceBreaker
K.O. Party
also
includes two exclusive multiplayer modes to encourage social play.
The first is T.K.O. (Team Knock-Out), which allows four players to
choose a team of boxers to bring into the ring. The last boxer
standing wins. The second is Punch-o-matic, in which a pull of a
level before each match will add a surprise to each bout, from
power-ups dropping into the ring, to gameplay speed changes and more.
FaceBreaker
K.O. Party
will
be available when it arrives at retailers this week, for $39.99
USD/CAD and is rated T for Teen. Since Electronic Arts actually ships
its titles on its games' release dates, except for certain titles,
you'll have to check with your local retailer if you're planning on
picking up either of these two titles today, as they may not receive
them until later this week.
