Johnny Raygun is a series featuring the Rayguns, a special police/super hero force saving the world from aliens and super villains. Johnny Raygun is one of the force’s top members. A young and impulsive hero, Johnny also enjoys comics, video games and role-playing games. This issue with three self-contained stories features stories about Johnny, his allies and his enemies.



In the first story, Johnny Raygun, recruit Waage and underwater agent H2Olaf try to stop P.R.U.D.E, Parents Rising Up to Destroy Entertainment wants to stop a giant computer serving a very popular virtual reality game from Japan. In the second story, Johnny Raygun and his old academy pal, Kane, get more trouble than they expect, while trying to stop a small time villain eating at burger joint.



The last story is about H2Olaf, instructing cadets on field class on gorillas. Each story is quite funny and light in tone. Although the heroes’ predicaments can get very daunting, reading this is always fun. Fans yearning for casual stories written with a modern flair will enjoy this. The stories are smart and characters’ characterisation consistent and entertaining.



The artwork captures the essence of similar works by Steve Rude, without copying his style. Each character looks different. Although simpler in tones, it’s not a straight cartoon style. It works as a clean super hero act. The inking in this series is very strong. It uniforms the entire series. A team this competent also has no problem with delivering concise visual storytelling.
