Johnny Raygun Quarterly #1

This is the first official issue of Johnny Raygun. In this story, the Moog, a captured sentient lava creature from Venus gains freedom and creates rampages in Las Vegas. It’s up to Johnny Raygun to save the day. But before Johnny and other Rayguns can bring back the monster, Doctor Ogg, a super smart caveman from the past interferes with their mission. Will they stoped the Moog?

This is a great story. There are lots of hints dropped throughout the comic book that although the Rayguns are the official super heroes on the block, there is much activity on the good and the bad sides. Conflicts arise as old friends argue for the fate of the Moog. Doctor Ogg is quite funny. He’s Mr Fantastic, with balls. This story is fun, serious and entertaining all at once.

The artwork’s strength is the inking. As a black and white comic book, this is important. There are just enough contrasts to understand the action. The backgrounds contain many details creating a sense of universe in this series. Johnny Raygun and other character maintain the same individualized looks throughout the book. This series is a great package, all around.
