The Atom, encased in a plastic ball, sloshes around in Giganta's stomach as she battles an army of tiny, bug-riding aliens. And from there, the story gets weirder. We are introduced to the idea that Ivy Town, once a quaint university town, has actually been transformed into a center of weirdness where Puritans co-exist with modern technology. This new addition to the Atom storyline is rather abrupt. A town whose neighborhoods seemingly exist in different timezones would have come to worldwide attention long ago but apparently, the new Atom is only discovering this anomaly now. Still, the story is moving forward at a good pace with sustained suspense and some clever twists. There is a lot of humour as well but it is used sparingly and feels natural to the story. Ryan Choi, the new Atom, is a little too skilled at using his new abilities. A little more fear and hesitation on his part would be more believable. Being reduced to the size of an insect should be a frightening experience, no matter how educated you are. The new art team is rather rough however. At times, Atom ends up looking like a body-builder rather than the slender athlete that he is supposed to be. The facial expressions also need work. This new art team had better improve quickly as this title needs a smooth, dynamic style to make its stories work.
