X Isle #3
By Hervé St-Louis
December 5, 2006 - 21:40
The gang split up because of internal feuds. Dr Keller wants to find his daughter but the ship’s captain and his lieutenant would rather not. Strange creatures living on the island, like plant-like green monkeys and giant insect like a walking tree trunk populate the island, and our adventurers still don’t know where they have landed. Is there still time left for the shipwreck crew or will they face their demise in the near future?
This chapter reads like a continuing thriller where you just know one of the good guy and one of the bad guys are about to be killed, by some of the weird threats living on the island. The question is when will it happen. Kudos for the writers for generating that level of suspense for the story. However, all the building blocks leading to the next chapter are all too easy to guess and although there are some new revelations near the end of the story, we’re not sure there will be enough of a cast left to unravel the mystery.
Scott is a competent artist whose work fits the story perfectly. There is a sense of dread in the shadow and bushes he sprinkles throughout the comic book. His strength is penning dark shadows and silhouettes in his work on empty backgrounds. It creates a sense of fullness as if the dark areas were island floating on top a dangerous sea.
