Mystery piles upon mystery as the new Atom finds himself pursued by a ruthless time-traveller seeking clues on the Professor Hyatt's "time pool." This comic certainly stands out in its willingness to present one far-out-concept after another. But at times, it is clearly trying too hard to impress. Too many things are left unresolved or unexplained so longtime readers may start getting tired while new readers will have trouble getting on board. Why is there a giant, floating head in the apartment? Why was this serial killer sent after the Atom? Why is the Atom flying around on a dumbbell? Would it really kill the editor to come up with a re-cap of recent events? The creative team wants to play up this idea that Ivy Town is a center for weirdness but the real weird thing here is that the stories seem to be going in all directions instead of building up to a real resolution. The art has an early-Jurgens look to it. It is satisfying but not anything to get excited about-- which is odd considering how they are playing up the whole mood of strangeness in the story.
