The spotlight section of ComicBookBin was an original feature at the site from the beginning before news and reviews took over. I refer to this section as comic-related punditry. Punditry is quite frequent and popular in comics with anyone having something to say about the comics we enjoy. The advent of blogs in the early 2000s also fed this kind of news feature which is different than other types of news.
In journalism, there are three main types of news (Ross 2005). There is reported news, that is news reports that focuses on sharing facts with the public. That would be a news article reporting on a new comic book project. Then, there is explained news.
Explained news goes into greater depth and does not have the same time restraint that reported news has. These are features and analysis about topics, or investigative journalism projects, like an in-depth article studying the office politics at a comic book publisher over several months.
