The six supervillains who refused to join Luthor's secret society launch a raid on another H.I.V.E. base where they rescue a hero from confinement. There are a few clues given as to what Luthor and company are planning and some cleverness in the way the Six defeat their foes. We learn more about Scandal, Cat-Man, Rag Doll and Parademon but the main plot doesn't seem to be going forward. How the Six hope to conquer the world by going against Luthor remains a mystery. Luthor's society meanwhile, is starting to look rather unimpressive. Despite its supposedly vast resources, the Society seem helpless to stop the Six, either reacting too slowly or not acting at all. Instead, we get a weakened Queen Bee, a grunge version of the Royal Flush Gang and a rather dull Black Adam. The art is luxurious and detailed but it is also cluttered and static, especially the fight scene between the H.I.V.E. and the Six. What should be a dynamic battle is just a mass of slumping bodies. Another scene of the Parademon throwing a tantrum is also poorly laid out so it is hard to tell what happened to the creature. Perhaps the last two issues of this mini-series will see the tempo step up a little. The art could also use a lighter touch.
