Cross Academy is a private boarding school where there are two classes – the Day Class and the Night Class.  As the students of the Day Class return to their dorms at twilight, they meet the Night Class students on their way to school, but they don’t know that the Night Class students are vampires.  Yuki Cross, the adopted daughter of Headmaster Cross, and Zero Kiryu, a human suffering the curse of the vampire, are Guardians of the school, patrolling the hallways and school grounds to protect the Day Class students from the vampires.

In Vampire Knight, Vol. 7, the pureblood vampire, Kaname Kuran, finally declares, without equivocation, to Yuki that he loves her.  Yuki shares those feelings, but demands that Kaname reveal to her the secrets of her past – especially the events of a particular snowy night ten years earlier – which he knows.  Meanwhile, new troubles come to the hallowed halls and stately grounds of Cross Academy.  Zero’s brother, Ichiru Kiryu, enters Cross Academy, still bearing his many grudges against his brother.  After taking possession of Senri Shiki’s body, Kaname’s uncle, Rido Kuran, also makes a smashing debut at Cross Academy.  How is Rido tied to Yuki’s past?

THE LOWDOWN:  Creator Matsuri Hino (Captive Hearts) has fashioned a bloody teen drama in Vampire Knight.  If The CW television network did a teen soap opera version of the Underworld film franchise, it would look quite similar to Vampire Knight.  As overheated and as blood-splattered as this narrative is, Hino’s characters can sometimes be enthralling – the way a goth vampire should be.

POSSIBLE AUDIENCE:  Readers who enjoy stories of teens and vampires and vampire teens will love them some Vampire Knight.
