The unthinkable has happened: Reed Richards' revolutionary scientific experiment went wrong, in a BIG way. So what’s the fallout, is Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben OK and what was the cause of the accident!

Everything is in chaos, smoke, flames, weird stuff is everywhere. And no one knows what happened! Bendis and Millar do manage to convey a level of shock and dismay into this issue, especially when Reed is finally found. Certain other things didn’t seem to hit though. Reeds indignation of his discovery wasn’t really that convincing and the concern for Sue wasn’t Believable either. The ending however was definitely interesting.

Kubret’s pencils this issue were good, but for some reason they didn’t have the same flare of the previous issues. I think it’s the facial expressions that seemed to be lacking. The detail wasn’t really there, so all feelings were hard to portray. This is evident in the opening panels: Reeds look is more wooden than shock. Now the backgrounds and everything else are still on par and generate the feel that we were introduced to. So the issue doesn’t really suffer at all. The cover is OK, but Johnny’s expression seems strange.
