Ultimate Fantastic Four #2

We’ve meet the four, Reed, Johnny, Sue and Ben and the beginnings of their fantastic journey has begun. But what will actually shape them into the hero’s their destined to be? And will these be the only familiar faces who we’ll meet?

I wondered how this book would proceed time wise. If we would have a few arcs with them as kids, but it doesn’t look like that is the case as we are jumped forward in time. The story has a really nice feel to it. Nothing really feels pushed on you or forced. All the conversations have a real life edge to them, like you could be having the same talk with some of your cats. You can see where the Dr Molekevic thing is going, but it was still a good fit. And we can see the need for acceptance and anxiety of failing/getting rejected is what is driving Reed. I’m feeling this!

Kubert’s pencils are definitely a good fit in this book. It fits the flow and pacing of the story. There were a few things that didn’t seem right though this issue. Sometimes Reeds face went from lean to bulky and I thought Molekevic looked a little over the top, seeing the access he has to medicines, etc. But these were really only minors and couldn’t spoil my enjoyment of the story. I didn’t really like Hitch’s cover either though. It just comes off rather stiff.
