This Tuesday, I finally joined the ranks of people who have had the chance to get their hands on the Wii remote and Nunchuck attachment and really give them a try. Nintendo held a Holiday Preview Event at the Atlantis venue at Ontario Place, in downtown Toronto, and I was glad to be on the invite list, along with my assistant videographer, Mike “Sock”. It was a bit of a chilly day, but we were feeling warm inside as we went in with very high expectations, and came out truly satisfied. With a room packed with the majority of the launch titles set to release on Sunday, and very short lineups during the press event, I had quite a bit of time with a number of games.
Getting to play on the Wii for the first time is a very interesting experience. Though any game on any system takes a little time to learn, some games, the Wii Sports titles in particular, take mere seconds to adjust to. Playing Wii Sports Baseball really is as simple as a flick of the wrist. One other game I had been waiting to get my hands on, and was excited to see at the event, was Rayman Ravin' Rabbids. Even playing the game with backward hand settings (using the Wii remote in my left hand instead of my right), I was still able to play just as easily as having the controller in the correct hands. I really can't wait to get my hands on my own Wii console on launch day and play the games in my own home.
We got quite a bit of video footage at the event, so take a look at our Wii Preview Event coverage to see just how things went.
