The Crew # 4
By Kevin Scott
September 1, 2003 - 09:39
The Crew is about three guys initially (soon to become four) bound together out of self-interest who become inspired to a higher cause in defending the residents of a dangerous no-man's land. How do they come together though and why would they put their own goals aside…..or have they!?! This isn't the black avengers, this isn't a black book. This is about personal & moral conflict and strong characterisation. Now how you rolling with!?!
This is how it should be done, this style is identical to none! This sums up Priest nicely. The story has a wealth of depth and you don't have to be an old fan to enjoy it. How do these Cats come together to form a Crew (checkout bottom panel of the page next to Hulk Ad, there's no love)? So what's Rhodey got to do with Kasper & Danny being han DC COMICS uffed together? How does Josiah fit into this? A lot comes together, but there are still loads of threads blowing. Which makes this so damn intriguing and draws you to the next issue.
The thing bout the art is, it REALLY tells the story! You see everything clearly. From smugness (an Danny has that in buckets), to intrigued, every facial expression is expressed to such an affect. The action looks great, Kaspers Matrix moves and his warning to Danny really show Bennett's skills. And the cover, damn, this reminds me of those old Movie posters. Nice touch!
