Superman Strength #1

The good news is this miniseries isn't another lofty sermon about Superman's origins and his innate nobility. In this tale, a band of brash, young cyber-criminals prepare to carry out a spectacular crime with a series of terrorist acts to distract Superman at the same time. The villains assume that Superman was raised in an upscale environment and hold him in contempt for never having suffered as they did. Meanwhile, Pa Kent tells a tale of Clark's youth where we see that life on the Kent farm was far from idyllic. The contrast between the over-the-top action of the criminals and the found-yet-regretful recollections of Pa Kent are played up well. There is a little too much Tarantino-esque dialogues (monologues) at the start but once the real action starts, the reader will realize who crucial this dialogue was. The art has a unique look-- sort of like a modernized version of a Golden Age comic. The amazing development at the end of this chapter will have the reader wondering what happens next. Hopefully, the rest of this miniseries will match the first issue in quality. For the price they are charging, they better be.
