What happens when the world’s most powerful man fights the world’s most powerful woman? Hard to say, but the woman keeps reminding the man to watch out for the children! Of course there is more to this issue than the fight between Princess Power and Hyperion. There are also the new African heroes introduced in this story and the message they had for the white heroes. Is African safe for democracy?
Straczynski has decided to breach some of the Black Panther’s usual turf by showing the difference of African heroes with those from America. The longing of the Blur for this group was interesting to see. Yet for all his longing, he is an American and part of the white people’s world, even if his is black. The best scene of this issue is the comparison of the fist and the opened hand gesture symbolizing how whites approach everything in life and how blacks deal with it. This really surprising to read this in this book. It really is mature and profound.
Of course all these nice words are nothing without a good artist to capture the meaning. Frank is the ideal partner of Straczynski. I really like how he shows the care each character has for one another, or their disdain.
