Arness is a Butcher in the Village of Kenopia. One night, when he believe's he's out to gather timber, he is told that he is actually their to help kill a Grizzlok, a beast that has killed many of the village's men, including the son of Rothian, the man that has asked him. After the deed is done Arness is told that it would be wise to leave the village, for the appearance of Grizzlok's is an indication of a coming evil.
Being the first issue, the character's and the plot are being established, both of which I think were done extremely well in the first issue. You'll notice right away that this series is going to be extremely violent, within the first issue we see both human's and animal's being killed in various bloody and brutal ways. Being set in a fantasy setting, the writing somewhat resemble's the nature of which were use to hearing from that, but thankfully not over the top, which help's immerse you more in the story.
The art is done in a slightly cartoon'ish manner, but with massive amount's of detail, you can look at some of the pages forever and keep finding stuff you havent seen. The combination of that art, combined with the violence is a great match, the vibrant color's making everything pop out at you. This was a great first issue and their's no doubt that i'll be coming back, hopefully it continue's in the right direction.
