Snakewoman (Cover #1 Release date: July 19, 2006)

Acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, director of 8-time Oscar(R)
nominated Elizabeth, has created the first -- of what will become many
-- director developed stories published by Virgin Comics. His
Snakewoman series is the sexy and mysterious story of Jessica Peterson,
a woman who will eventually kill 68 men. It will debut in stores on
July 19, 2006.
"Snakewoman is such a visual story, it has
been easy for me to imagine it told as comics and graphic novels," said
Mr. Kapur. "Sharad Devarajan and his team at Virgin understand how
Snakewoman comics become storyboards for the Snakewoman film.
Mr. Kapur is known as one of the globe's most critically acclaimed film
directors and impresarios. He was the master behind the controversial
film Bandit Queen that gained international attention when it was
banned by the Indian government. He has since gone on to direct noted
films in both Bollywood and Hollywood. He is currently in the UK
filming Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
The Snakewoman comic series
is being illustrated by Michael Gaydos (Alias, The Pulse) and written
by Zeb Wells (Civil War: Young Angers/Runaways). The cover of
Snakewoman #1 was painted by Mukesh Singh at the Virgin Comics studio
in Bangalore, India.
If they are simply taking a storyboard and turning it into a comic book
then they will fail miserably. Although storyboards are sequential art,
the transition between the frames are not the same. What works on film
doesn't work on paper. Let's hope Virgin's guru will have enough
insight into making something of quality. I'm not convinced.
