Two
stories in a single comic book seems the norm these days for all-ages books.
Not that that’s a bad thing, because epic multi-chapter adventures will never
hook younger readers. It would be like handing War & Peace to a 9-year-old.
Story #1
features the Titans in a battle of the bands against Punk Rocket, whose musical
tastes fill that tiny void between racket electronic feedback. Is the victor in
doubt? Well, SURE – when Robin is jammin’ to his flute. (I never was a
Jethro Tull fan).
Story #2 is
that time-honored teen tradition featured in countless John Hughes movies – the
prom. It’s all Starfire’s idea, but getting the others to go along requires a
blend of peer pressure (another time-honored teen tradition), feminine wiles,
and blackmail.
It’s good to
see Teen Titans Go! is not limited to
a simple corner of the DCU. References are made to HIVE and Speedy, suggesting
there’s a whole other animé universe fans of the show have yet to see. And
that’s okay; I’d just as soon it stay that way.
