Topcow Comics for April 2006

For those of you who don’t know me, one small explanation: I’m a word guy.

That is to say, my background is in magazines and newspapers. Journalism. Consider me J. Jonah Jameson without the flat-top, Perry White without the heart condition. All things equal, I kinda look to the written word as the alpha and omega. That’s where it starts and ends.

So. Why am I here to talk about two artists? ’Cause they’re pretty freakin’ great.

Mike Choi took over Witchblade with #80, and is cruising well into his second year on the book. In the process…he’s really made it his own. You old-school types will still absolutely and 100% recognize comely figure of Sara Pezzini you’ve come to know and love. But Mike has added a flair, a nuance and a rich supporting cast all his own. It’s been amazing to see the growth.

Then there’s Pat Lee. What more can be said? Need an alien armada designed? He’s your guy. Low-orbit jump-jet? Yup. Full, ground-up character redesigns? Check. Pat is putting all this and more into Cyberforce, and dammit, when the pages come in…it is to drool.

So much so, that I almost forget I’m a word guy. Check ’em out. ’Cause a picture’s worth a thousand words, right?
