"Fujilog," a new animation series that focuses on a very small corner of the city of Saitama, will be aired on television stations nationwide beginning April 2011. Created by CG animation artist Shigeo Shichiji, "Fujilog" is geared toward highlighting a local area's attractions.
Set in the Owada district of Saitama, the animated program offers a close-up and personal view of the community. Local media and companies are featured in the stories under their real names.
The nonsensical and surreal comedy depicts the everyday life of the Fujiyama family living in the Owada district. The characters are lovable and fun. The local orientation of the series provides a rare look into a typical district in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The Saitama prefectural government and the Saitama city government fully cooperated with the production.
Prior to its launch, a promo DVD will be released from Victor Entertainment, Inc. on Feb. 18, called "Saitama-ken Zaiju, Fujiyama Osamu, 33, Mushoku (NEET): Fujilog Nyumon-hen" (Osamu Fujiyama, a resident of Saitama Prefecture, 33, No job (NEET): Introduction to Fujilog).
Creator Shichiji initially worked at companies that produce TV commercials and CD-ROM content, but now he is a freelance producer of
3-D computer graphics.
"Fujilog" is based on short animation series he posted regularly on his blog. It was among the Jury Recommended Works for 2009 selected at the Japan Media Arts Festival, sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
Voice actor Takeshi Kusao, a native of Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture, who played the role of Hanamichi Sakuragi in the sports-themed anime "Slam Dunk" series, voices the main character, Osamu Fujiyama. Visit (www.jvcmusic.co.jp/fujilog).
