Mercury Meltdown caused by Ignition

Ignition Entertainment announced today that its team is currently in developing a new puzzle game for Wii. Mercury Meltdown Revolution challenges players to immerse themselves in a colorful world of sci-fi machines, crazy characters, and bubbling test tubes. Players take control of a liquid mercury “blob”, guiding it around traps, door switches, spikes, moving floors and other hazardous elements in order to complete the level. The game takes full advantage of the Wii Remotes tilt sensitivity, using “state of the art blob physics” for play in over 150 challenging levels. “We are thrilled to bring Mercury Meltdown to this ground-breaking game console that truly reinvents the gaming experience,” said Paul Robinson, president of Ignition Entertainment. “The Wii Remote is a true compliment to the Mercury series as the original game design was intended for a tilt controller. Now gamers can fully interact with the Mercury blob, navigating through the labs with precision and unprecedented speed.” Of course, if the game does not take full advantage of all of the Wii Remotes capabilities, we could potentially see the game heading to Playstation 3 as well. Mercury Meltdown Revolution is scheduled to ship to North America in spring of 2007.

Getting off the couch and on your GamerCycle

GamerCycle wants to get your kids off the couch and on their product, saying the Gamercycle is the perfect holiday gift, in addition to a PS3, Xbox 360 or Wii. “Don't feel guilty about buying a game console for your children. They get exercise when playing games with Gamercycle,” said Bob Day, Gamercycle creator, President and Chief Technology Officer. The Gamercycle is an ergonomic, recumbent exercise cycle for children and adults that connects with your game console and television screen. Your gamer pedals, the TV picture remains ON. Stop pedaling and the screen goes OFF. It works with all game consoles (Playstation, Xbox, Wii, etc.) and all video games. It's 100% universal. This, of course, could be rather annoying while trying to play certain Wii games, especially ones that require the player to stand up. Wii Sports comes to mind. However, if the kids are smart enough, and don't want to use the Gamercycle, they'll probably just get around it, as it probably won't be that difficult.

The good news for GamerCycle is that it has Oprah Winfrey and her Boys and Girls Clubs on its side. The pedal-to-play exercise/game system has been selected for use in Oprah Winfrey Boys and Girls Club Kosciusko/Attala County, Mississippi. “The bikes are innovative and easy to operate. They make exercising more fun!" said Kelvin McGruder, CEO of Boys and Girls Club Kosciusko/Attala County. "Gamercycle, which children must pedal to enable viewing of the video game, will be included this spring in the club's MBS (Mind Body and Soul) program," McGruder said. The idea behind the Gamercycle is, no doubt, a good one. However, the player has to actually be willing to use the device in order to get the full benefit from it. Otherwise, it will just end up as another sidelined stationary bike. For more information on the Gamercycle, you can check out the manufacturer's website at www.gamercycle.com.
