One is an outrageous pop maven; the other, an octogenarian TV legend. But both are celebrities that captivated the public imagination in 2010 and are subjects of Bluewater Productions' biography comic books releasing this week.
“Fame: Lady Gaga” and “Female Force: Betty White” are scheduled to hit newsstands, comic bookstores and online venues on Wednesday, January 5.
“Fame: Lady Gaga” follows the unknown Stefani Germanotta as she crafted a glam-rock persona and began her climb up the pop music charts with monster hits like “Poker Face” and “Just Dance.” The issue also promises to showcase Gaga in some of her more unusual and extraordinary fashion choices as well as her legendary performances.
Veteran actress and comedian Betty White represents a near polar opposite from Gaga. Portrayed in her own biography title, “Female Force: Betty White” readers and fans can trace the career Hollywood's most enduring “it girl" for over sixty astounding years including the unprecedented and highly successful grassroots Facebook campaign to get her to host “Saturday Night Live.”
Betty White has starred in dozens of television shows including “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Golden Girls” and most recently “Hot In Cleveland.” She has won seven Emmy awards.
“On its face, neither should have anything in common with the other, but once you read their stories, you see the common thread,” said Bluewater president Darren G. Davis said of Gaga and White, “They are strong, influential women who have endured personal and professional challenges and have taken the marketing of their brand to whole new levels.”
Part of the proceeds from “Female Force: Betty White” will be donated to the actresses favorite charity GLAZA (Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association). White was named chairman of the 65,000 member nonprofit dedicated to nurturing wildlife and the well being of animals in September.
“We are pleased that Ms. White has given the book her blessing and we are proud to support her humanitarian work,” said Davis said.
“Female Force: Betty White” was written by Patrick McCray and penciled by Todd Tennant. The title also features two cover alternatives provided by Adam Ellis and Juan Mar Studios.
Fame: Lady Gaga” was written by CW Cooke and penciled by Dan Glasl, inked by Rusty Gilligan. Adam Ellis and Michal Szyksznian provide the two different cover variations.
The suggested retail price (SRP) for the upcoming 32-page comic book is $3.99. To make sure you get your copy, contact your local comic book store to pre-order it. To find a comic book store near you download one of the
ComicBookBin apps. These special editions will also be available through several online venues including Amazon.com and the Barnes and Noble and Borders online stores.
Bluewater first published the “Female Force” titles in 2008 as a broad examination of strong and influential women who are shaping modern history and culture. In past issues, the monthly series has featured Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Margaret Thatcher, JK Rowling, Sarah Palin and others.
The “Fame” series was launched earlier in 2010 as a companion piece to the successful “Female Force” and “Political Power” biography titles. The comic allows Bluewater to delve into the celebrity culture and understand how a person rises to fame, deals with the newfound celebrity and continue to produce in the public eye. That includes actors, sports figures, recording artists and royals.
In the upcoming months the company will soon release comic autobiographies of Glenn Beck, Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, Beyonce and The Black Eyed Peas.
