Furious Fist of the Drunken Monkey: Origin of the Species will debut from Silent Devil in June. A 3-issue full color mini-series by writer/artist/creator Rich Stahnke, Furious Fist of the Drunken Monkey is about an alcoholic chimp named Chip and his toad sidekick, Al.
"Christian Beranek (Silent Devil's EIC) and I first worked together on some cartoon strips for Fanboy Radio's web site and that led to my work on the web strip '20%' for the Silent Devil web site," creator Rich Stahnke explains. "At HeroesCon in Charlotte last June, I sat with the Silent Devil crew and Christian read the earlier issues of Drunken
Monkey that I had on hand. A few months later, he called and asked me about bringing the book under the Silent Devil imprint."
The first Furious Fist of the Drunken Monkey series originally came out in black and white from Imperium Comics. Stahnke wanted to clarify that he shows no ill will towards his former publisher. "I enjoyed working with Imperium, but Silent Devil was offering a chance for me to take the book full color which is really exciting. I'm also proud to be part of the new wave of books being released through Silent Devil. Monkey vs. Lemur, The Devil's Panties, and Death Comes to Dillinger are all unique and fresh books and I hope Furious Fist of the Drunken Monkey fits in the line with such quality work."
The back story behind Furious Fist of the Drunken Monkey is the tale of a reluctant hero. Chip came to possess a ring of alien origin and when it converts to an oversized gauntlet, his natural speed, strength, and agility are increased. Chip's ongoing dilemna in life is whether or not he's going to use the glove to fight crime and make the world a better place or continue leading his slacker lifestyle and use the glove as the ultimate can opener. In some of his earlier adventures he's faced threats like The Gene Gnome, the Copper Curler, and the Exhibitionist. This new series kicks off with an encounter with a special big gun toting and excessive pouch wearing guy who goes by the name Deathblud.
"It'll be nineties nostalgia at its best!" Stahnke says with a wink and a nod.
