Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and legendary fantasy artist Richard Corben present an all-new Hellboy miniseries with Hellboy: Makoma or, a Tale Told By a Mummy in the New York City Explorers’ Club on August 16, 1993
Award-winning Hellboy creator Mike Mignola has teamed with comics legend Richard Corben for an all-new Hellboy miniseries. Set years before his comics debut in Seed of Destruction, this two-parter reveals Hellboy’s early encounter with the powerful mythology of Africa. This unique collaboration features story and cover art by Mignola with the bulk of the interior art by Corben. Mignola will also provide additional art for a special framing sequence for what will be the most anticipated horror-comics event of the year!
Since the 1970s Richard Corben has been creating bizarre and beautiful comics. He worked on the most notable horror and sci-fi titles of the original small-press boom and his work was brought to the big screen in the cult animated film Heavy Metal. He at last achieved mainstream stardom with his recent collaborations with Brian Azzarello and Garth Ennis bringing a fresh perspective to such characters as the Hulk and the Punisher among others.
“Of course, I have followed the work of Mike Mignola for quite some time, but the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with him gives me a legitimate excuse to study his sophisticated storytelling and art style in depth,” commented Richard Corben. “Working with Mike Mignola is a privilege and I’m extremely grateful. Although I’ve been drawing comics for many years, there is much he can teach me.”
Hellboy: Makoma, or, A Tale Told By a Mummy in the New York City Explorers’ Club on August 16, 1993 features the talents of Mike Mignola, Richard Corben, and Dave Stewart. It arrives on sale February 1 with a retail price of $2.99.
