Mystique # 5
By Kevin Scott
September 1, 2003 - 13:44
To be a good spy you need to be able to move in silence. You'll need to be able to do the unthinkable to survive. You'll need to be able to blend in to your surroundings. So if your Mystique, your perfect for the job………maybe too perfect.
She's a ruthless killer, has committed countless atrocities, but now she is working for Charles Xavier!?! Maybe not by choice, but what does she want, redemption or a means for escape!?!
Brian Vaughan really knows how to keep you coming back for more. His use of cliff-hangers is so on point. Last issue we were left with Mystique jus bout to get shot, what's gonna happen!?! One of the nice things bout this book is, it doesn't confine it's self to a linear path. Mystique has restrictions placed on her, but will she keep to them!?! Her physiological journey is an interesting part of this story. I mean, Mystique is a villain working for the good guys……………..can this last!?!
Lucas really knows how to handle action well. His pencils flow nicely to create a picture that really tells a story. The colours are solid and bold, but without being garish. The book looks real nice and you know this will translate well into the TPB.
Report Card - C+(A solid gripping story, with an ending that impels you to find out what happens next)
