Come June 25, cable channel operator, Starz will host a 24-hours marathon on comic book-based movies, one week prior the launch of Warner Brothers’ Superman Returns. Some of the films scheduled on the aptly named Comic Book on Film, are Hellboy, Sin City, Tank Girl, Steel, Judge Dredd, Blade: Trinity and Nick Fury: Agent of Shield. To coincide with the network’s marathon, its half hour show focusing on the movie industry, Starz The Hollywood Reporter will air a special centred on comic book films.
This special includes interviews with Brandon Routh, the actor playing the role of Superman in the upcoming film, Christian Bale, from 2005's Batman Begins, Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry from the X-Men film franchise. In particular, the special will look at all films created from the two respective larger American comic book publishers, Marvel Comics and DC Comics. It will also look at the many films created from other publishers, such as Dark Horse.
More than a historical recap, Comic Book on Film looks at some important themes like non super hero-based comic books like Road to Perdition and investigates the lack of support for films starring female leads, such as Elektra.
