The National Board of Review of Motion Pictures launched the 2007-08 movie awards season by naming Joel and Ethan Coen’s No Country for Old Men “Best Film” of 2007. Adapted from Cormac McCarthy’s 2005 novel of the same name, the film also received “Best Adapted Screenplay” (the Coen Bros.), and “Best Ensemble Cast.”
Tim Burton received “Best Director” for Sweeney Todd, and George Clooney ( Michael Clayton) and Julie Christie ( Away from Her), won the lead actor honors. Oscar-winner Michael Douglas ( Wall Street) won the “Career Achievement Award.”
The U.S. National Board of Review was formed 98 years ago and is composed of film historians, students and educators.
