This is the comic book older fans have been waiting for since the first version of X-Factor ended. The original X-Men boys are together again, this time hunting the escaped 198 mutants that have fled with X-Force’s Domino and Shatterstar. The X-Men initially neutral in the civil war raging in the Marvel universe have decided to get involve and bring back their own back to their mention who now serves as a reserve for mutants. However, not all mutants on campus share the original X-Men’s goals and there a confrontation is sure to happen soon enough.

The real highlight of this series is seeing the classic X-Men go after all the later characters added like the X-Force guys and Bishop. It’s as if the writer had set up the series as an old school comic book fans versus modern fans. Good thing he left out Wolverine! This series supports my theory that the freedom fighters really are the ones fighting for truth and democracy, while the others, fighting for orders are more conservative. Nevertheless, the comment about the X-Men taking care of their own sounded mildly racist even though there are no mutants in real life. I like comics who can touch base like this.

Paquette’s work is good super hero material for someone who doesn’t particularly like them so much. I think he secretly likes them but won’t admit it too much!
