On a savage, alternate version of Earth, the pursuit of the most delicious foods rules over everything else – eat or be eaten. Practically everything and everyone is on the menu, and Ultimate Gourmet Hunter Toriko, one of the Four Kings, is on a life-long quest to create the perfect full-course meal. With young IGO chef, Komatsu, at his side, Toriko has an Ultimate Hunter-Chef partnership, as he faces every beast in his way, putting some in his bottomless stomach.
As Toriko, Vol. 34 (entitled King at Play!! Chapters 301 to 310) opens, Toriko and the other Four Kings are in Area 7 of Gourmet World to find Gourmet God Acacia's Soup, “Pair.” And this time, it is a life or death situation, as they need the soup to save Komatsu's life. To get the soup, however, they have to get a pair and also learn “Monkey Martial Arts.”
THE LOWDOWN: Well, the Toriko manga surprises me again. I should expect that by now, but, in a way, I am frustrated. I should know this series at this point, especially after having read it for over five years. Surprises, there's always surprises.
Toriko Volume 34, as usuaul, is a testament to series creator Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro's imagination. You never know where he will have his characters find ingredients. Sometimes, they find an actual dish just hanging in places you'd hoped they wouldn't find a food stuff. I say it again: Toriko is the kind of manga that makes me happy to be reading manga.
POSSIBLE AUDIENCE: Readers looking for the best in shonen adventure will want a big taste of the Shonen Jump manga, Toriko.
