The Guardian has to fight his way through a "Westworld"-like amusement park where the robots have turned on the human guests. Morrison's cleverness is used to good effect here but it also gets the better of him. The amusement park being a microcosm of the world's population and a bizarre monologue about killer appliances from an elderly park patron may be original and even slightly amusing but they don't really add anything to the story and may even be considered a distraction. Fortunately, there is enough material to keep the reader focused on the main story, from the Guardian's stoic determination in robot-fighting to his flashback to an emotional exchange with his girlfriend. The Guardian is well-portrayed here, showing that Morrison can write an ordinary, "everyman" character who is still sympathetic and interesting. Stewart's art has a nice Silver-Age feel to it-- not too flashy but telling a very good story.
