Rated “T+” for “Older Teen”

In the year 2012, the trumpets of the apocalypse proclaimed the fall of humanity.  Vampires rose from the shadows and began their reign over the Earth.  A mysterious virus killed almost all adult humans, sparing those younger than 13 years of age.  They were subsequently enslaved as livestock – for vampires.  In 2016, the orphan Yuichiro “Yu” Hyakuya stepped forward and seeks revenge, and his goal is to kill each and every vampires.

As Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign, Vol. 5 (Chapters 16 to 19) opens, Shinoa Hiragi tells Yu about the process of transforming humans into vampires.  What Yu wants to know, however, is how to transform a vampire back into a human.  Yu also has a meeting with members of the powerful Hiragi Family, and they have many surprises – including tests of his loyalty.

Yu also learns about the differences between manifestation and possession concerning Cursed Gear.  Also, what happened to Mahiru Hiragi comes to light, and more hints about the events surrounding the apocalypse are revealed.

THE LOWDOWN:  The Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign manga is a thoroughly enjoyable read.  There are many vampire manga, and many are unique both in invention and execution.  This is the case with Seraph of the End, which I thought from the beginning showed potential.

Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign Volume 5 is an immediate payoff on potential.  Every volume of Seraph of the End almost seems like the beginning of a new series, because the narrative remains fresh, as creators Yamato Yamamoto (artist) and Takaya Kagami (story) introduce new sub-plots, characters, reveals, concepts, etc.  I don't want to miss a volume of this.

POSSIBLE AUDIENCE:  Fans of vampire manga will want to bite deeply into the Shonen Jump Advanced series, Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign.
