“As evidenced by our previously announced lineup, Filmation released some of the most memorable animated series ever to hit television in the ‘70s and ‘80s,” said Jeff Hayne, Director of Acquisitions, BCI. “The Groovie Goolies were one of the most unique casts of characters on Saturday mornings, and we’re glad to offer this complete series not only to those of us that remember it on television, but to a whole new generation.”
“Groovie Goolies” features a cast of legendary monsters who got themselves in all sorts of predicaments, joking, singing and dancing their way through each episode. The series starred Tom Drac, the proprietor of the Horrible Hall boarding house, and his creepy family: his wife Hagatha, son Frankie, pet cat Salem, dinosaur Rover, and Hagatha’s classic, living broom, Broom Hilda. Each week, the Goolies ended their show with a “joke wall” segment, reminiscent of the classic “Laugh-In” series, and each episode featured the family in their own band singing their own song.
Special features include “The Definitive Groovie Goolies Documentary,” produced by horror aficionados Wally Wingert and Dan Roebuck.
