The tour is a bit of a departure from previous spring offerings, mixing an array of traditional destinations with the pop culture-centric destinations that have taken root around them. The tour starts and ends in the Kansai area, offering guests the chance to experience the famous temples, shrines, and other traditional sites of Kyoto, Osaka, and other destinations in the history-rich Kansai area. Visitors will be escorted "off the beaten path" to Japan's rural countryside, where they'll take part in a Ninja festival and attend a local festival on the shore of picturesque Lake Biwa. On the modern side of the coin, tour participants will get to visit the urban centres of Kobe and Osaka, as well as a theme park that is set up to resemble a samurai film set. In keeping with the tour's namesake, tour guests will also get to have a picnic under the blooming "sakura" trees.
"We're thrilled that we can offer a tour with this kind of 'traditiona-meets-modern' flavor," says PJT Director of Operations Gigi Guiting. "Personally, we're just looking forward to taking everyone out for an old-school picnic under the cherry blossoms!"
In addition to the tour itself, guests can opt to visit two hot spring spas ("onsen") during their trip, as well as take an optional extension to the Tokyo area.
