THE LOWDOWN: While the dust jacket indicates that Invisible Boy, Vol. 2 is yaoi manga, it really isn’t. Invisible Boy 2 is boys’ love manga that’s more about boys who deeply admire one another and who might even have a hard crush on another guy than it is about hardcore boy on boy romance.
Hotaru Odagiri has created a dense multi-character epic that is like a nighttime teen soap opera, but it’s missing something. The opening chapter in this volume is an interlude that features a female character as the lead. In it, a shy young woman from a girls’ private academy, who has a crush on Kitou, actually meets him. Entitled “Tea with the President,” it’s a rather nice story, and proves that Invisible Boy could use more girls.
POSSIBLE AUDIENCE: With page after page of beautifully drawn, well-dressed boys, Invisible Boy 2 will appease those looking for light BL.
