After getting dumped by his true love, aspiring writer Carter Webb (Adam Brody) leaves Los Angeles and returns to suburban Michigan. There he cares for his ailing grandmother and tries to work on the novel he always wanted to write. Complicated and eccentric, Grandma (Olympia Dukakis) has a unique perspective on life and death.
Not long after arriving, Carter encounters his neighbors across the street, Sarah Hardwicke (Meg Ryan) and her daughters, precocious 11-year old Paige (Makenzie Vega) and angst-ridden teen Lucy (Kristen Stewart). Carter has always been falling in love with women, and he’s always been looking for the right one. Now, with the help of these three women and his grandmother, Carter may find that his life didn’t end in L.A. It’s just beginning here.
