Rated “T” for “Teen”

One day, there is a blinding flash, and every human is petrified and turned into a statue.  Civilization gradually falls apart.  When high school student, Taiju Oki, reawakens, bursting from his stone shell, he is shocked to discover that it is 3700 years later!  And he is not alone, as his classmate, Senku Ishigami, has been up and running for over half a year.  Now, the duo and more reawakened humans must kick-start civilization, which will not be easy, as not everyone agrees on how civilization should be rebuilt.

As Dr. Stone, Vol. 6 (Chapters 44 to 52; entitled “Stone Wars”) opens, Senku learns more about his father, Bykuya Ishigami.  He was an astronaut onboard a space station when the flash turned humanity to stone.  He returned to Earth shortly afterwards and left behind clues for his son to find 3700 years later!  Can his son discover these secrets thousands of years later?

Next, the forces of the Tsukasa Empire attack.  Is Senku's kingdom of science ready to repel that attack?  Senku thinks it is time to begin building their strongest weapon yet.

THE LOWDOWN:  The Dr. Stone manga is a spry, imaginative manga that can be very action-oriented.  And while it is an odd shonen manga, the story constantly expands its scope.

Dr. Stone Graphic Novel Volume 6 offers a narrative that has two exciting fronts.  First, there is the invasion from the forces of the rival revived, Tsukasa Shishio.  The battle gets pretty intense, and it features a shocking ending for some of the combatants.  Secondly, Senku's plan to create a new weapon is not what one might expect, and, in a delightful twist, it involves cotton candy.  Vol. 6 rewards you for reading this absolutely delightful and inventive series.

I READS YOU RECOMMENDS:  Readers looking for odd shonen manga will want to try the Shonen Jump title, Dr. Stone.
