ComicBookBin 2.0 for iPhone Released!

The ComicBookBin iPhone app helps comic book collectors plan comic book conventions attendance, locate comic book stores in multiple locations, as well as provide access to over 10,000 articles published about comics, toys, movies and books since 2002.

The main feature of ComicBookBin 2.0 for iOS is the revamped comic book convention listings. Publisher Hervé St-Louis says “we’ve scrapped the old convention part of the app that was in version 1.0 and 1.5 and rebuilt it from scratch to add more interactivity and usefulness for our users. There is no more compromises with the comic book convention listings.” Now users can add any comic book conventions listed in the convention listings to their personal calendar app, such as iCal, Outlook and Gmail. They can even mail a calendar event to a friend directly from ComicBookBin to remind them that they have to go to a comic book convention.

But we didn’t stop there. As well as full conventions, users can also access more information such as specific scheduled events within conventions. That means that if the user wants to specifically add a panel with Stan Lee to a personal calendar, it’s possible all within the app. This is a great planning tool for the comic book collector that travels to a comic book convention like the San Diego Comiccon and has to schedule multiple panels, signings and events within the convention.

The convention listing also lists the registration contacts of comic book conventions like email, phone number and Web site when available. Users can directly send an email or call a convention organizer making it easier to register and attend.

We’ve also listened to our users and add a multiple location to the store locator. By default, the store locator still lists all the stores in your area. But now, users can type in the name of any city or location and see if there’s a store nearby. That’s quite useful for planning a trip or a convention outing in another city.

The last thing we did was make the interface prettier. It’s still simple; works in both portrait and landscape mode, but now, the icons have been redesigned. Upgrades to ComicBookBin are still free, so it’s a great value. Users of the ComicBookBin app now generate about 12% of the overall traffic at The Comic Book Bin. We’re about to launch similar apps for Google Android and Palm webOS devices in a few weeks. Enthusiasm for the comic book industry’s utility belt can only grow from here.
