Uzumaki Boruto is the son of Uzumaki Naruto, who was once a young shinobi (ninja) who lived in the shinobi Village of Konohagakure. Naruto had an incorrigible knack for mischief, but he went on to become the world’s greatest ninja and the Hokage, leader of his village. But this is not Naruto's story. This is Boruto's story!
As Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Vol. 7 (entitled Kawaki – Chapters 24 to 27) opens, the mysterious Ohtsutuski-connected organization, Kara, attempts to retrieve the cargo from its crashed airship. Meanwhile, the Genin mission of Sarutobi Konohamaru and his team: Boruto, Uchiha Sarada and Mitsuki, along with Scientific Ninja Tool developer, the scientist, Dr. Tohno Katasuke, is in the middle of Kara's machinations. They have found the “cargo,” and it is a boy named Kawaki, who has the same mark on his left hand that Boruto has on his right hand.
THE LOWDOWN: The Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga is great. First, I must admit that I am a huge fan of the manga, Naruto, which is one of my all-time favorite comics. Because Boruto is a continuation of Naruto, with Boruto being like a younger version of Naruto, I find that Boruto has become one of my favorite current comics. However, the Boruto creative team of artist Mikio Ikemoto and script writer Ukyo Kodachi, are making their own way with this manga, although Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto supervises this series.
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Graphic Novel Volume 7 introduces what I hope will be a great regular character, Kawaki. Perhaps the new kid will be to Boruto what Uchiha Sasuke was to Uzumaki Naruto – a great rival who inspired greatness in the title hero.
I thought that Vol. 6 was the new series' best volume to date, and while Vol. 7 is not quite as powerful, it is simply excellent. As usual, series translator Mari Morimoto makes Boruto a great read, which reads even better with Snir Aharon's precise lettering and explosive sound effects. Boruto is turning out to be quite a reading event... like the original.
I READS YOU RECOMMENDS: Fans of Naruto will want the Shonen Jump title, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
