Miles Morales, the new Ultimate Spider-Man is under a great deal of media scrutiny when after a battle with a villain that ends badly, he is branded a murderer. The country is facing a difficult time with the Sentinel crisis in the Southwest and the Union struggling to hold itself together, so its easy for public opinion to be influenced by some shoddy reporting on the new Spider-Man. The same thing happened to Peter Parker plenty of times before his untimely death as well, as his Aunt May and Gwen Stacy affirm, but Captain America has his doubts about Miles' readiness to be a costumed hero, especially after witnessing Miles' battle with Batroc the Leaper...

Brian Michael Bendis is easily one of the most revered comic book writers currently writing. His massive and long term run on the Marvel U's Avengers franchise is quickly approaching legendary status, so of course he's quite possibly the only writer to be able to make the new Ultimate Spider-Man a winner, both as a book and a character. Miles is the most unsure of himself superhero we've seen in a long time, He accurately reflects the spirit of Lee and Kirby's early Spider-Man stories more than any other recent incarnation of the hero. It will be interesting to see how he manages to win Captain America over to his side in the next few issues.

David Marquez's crisp and clear pencils and inks fit Bendis' storytelling style perfectly. Each and every panel is expertly laid out and captures Miles wide eyed youth and the dangerous world around him and and his alter ego beautifully.

While not really tying into the Ultimate Comics mega line crossover, Ultimate All-New Spider-Man #13 is nonetheless a solid read. Bendis continues to make history by making the most unique character to ever wear the Spidey outfit not just an engaging character, but a winning one as well.
