This is the untold story of how former S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury, found out about the Skrulls’ plans to invade the Earth. Set in the past, it shows what happened right after Fury left S.H.I.E.L.D.  to go underground. Can Nick Fury stop the invasion before it becomes unstoppable ir has he committed his first tactical error in recruiting the Queen of the Skrulls to help him?

I don’t like stories where the hero is too smart and can figure out the enemy’s plans quickly. Here we see just that. Nick Fury is so smart that he figures out that’s it’s a Skrull full-scale invasion instead of one of their many random activities on Earth. I also don’t like how the cloaking device Nick Fury uses seems to override every other detection methods even when it’s but a mechanical apparatus. Why is it so effective when Nick Fury uses it and not others? The story is entertaining, but the challenge to the hero is not effective enough. He is too competent to make me doubt that he will overcome his situation.

Maleev has the opportunity to work on a story that is attuned to his strength. Or perhaps, his participation made it the type of stories he would draw! It’s all headshots and introspections, with very little words said. It’s not crime noir, but his moody style fits the super spy thriller that we witness this issue. As with everything Maleev works on. The *visuals are balanced, well executed and without any extra drawing and the right storytelling. He makes it seem so easy to render out professional pages like these.
