The story takes place during the era of the video game, Knights of the Old Republic. The Old Republic lasted from 25,000 to 1,000 years before the Battle of Yavin (Luke Skywalker's victory over the Deathstar) and it was a time of peace and justice, where the Jedi where numerous. The particular events in Flashpoint take place 3,963 years before the battle of Yavin.

As someone who doesn't read comics often, but is a huge Star Wars fan, I was really pleased with the story and found that this volume was hard to put down, even though the events have little to do with the video game. The story follows a young fugitive Padawan Zayne Carrick who has allegedly killed a class of Jedi trainees. He is fleeing the Republic with his troupe of other scoundrels which include his partner in crime Gryph, and inventor Camper and his protector Jarael, and a droid Elbee. While scavenging a rimworld for supplies, they are attacked by Mandalorians and Jarael is mistaken for a Jedi and captured. I found that the eclectic mix of characters formed a great group and watching them reach their victories as a team was well worth the read. the characters were very believable and each had their own strengths and weaknesses. There are a few plot-twists and "to-be-continued"s that leave you wanting more but I view this a good thing because I am seriously wanting to find out what happens in the next volume. What does Zayne's former master have in plan? Why does he want Zayne alive so badly? Will Zayne escape the trap?

As a professional artist I thought the artwork was awesome. There are some very cool pages showing the full costume of specific characters and using this sort of composition just adds to the drama of the situations. For the most part, the inking was clean and looked very good. At some points the inking was a little messy but I still felt like it looked really good, perhaps it's just a preference of style. The colors that were used were full, bright and dramatic. The artists made good use of lighting effects to convey the atmosphere and mood.

Overall I thought the text and artwork meshed well together and that this volume of Knight of the Old Republic is a very entertaining read. A must have for Star Wars and comic book fans alike.
