On the comeback trail, our two showbiz has-beens, Ruff and Reddy, have ditched their manipulative agent Pamela for Crafty Schrafft, an elder statesman in Hollywood. He’s got a firm handle on their career strategy, but the spiteful Pamela isn’t done quite yet.

Is this typical of Hollywood? Well, given the recent stories of sexual hijinks and career hijackings that have been filling up the interwebs, sure, why not? Character assassination leads to perception becoming reality, and while it may or may not be true, it’s very entertaining. And isn’t that what Hollywood is all about?

The book also features a couple of brief cameos, not the least of is writer Howard Chaykin in an Alfred-Hitchcock-like appearance. The other is a long-dormant DC character almost as old as Ruff & Reddy. It is my hope this reminder will lead to additional appearances, either her or elsewhere.

Next issue promises further developments, but for whom remains a mystery. Perhaps Pamela will be pummeled as she deserves, or maybe Ruff & Reddy will recede into retirement as we deserve. Either way, it’s very entertaining. And isn’t that what Hollywood is all about?
