Mother Panic has busted into this world’s Arkham to bust her mom out. Of course, it’s no small challenge to do so, but she a wee bit of help from her homicidal sidekick, Fennec Fox. And the kid is eager to do some damage against the forces of Arkham.

Meanwhile, Violet learns that some things remain the same. Her mom is her mom, and her mom is a tad bit unhinged, regardless of what Universe she’s in. But not everything is so closely mirrored, as we are introduced to alternate versions of other members of the Bat-cast. And there may be one more surprise in store for Violet, if she can live long enough.

The great thing about alternate reality stories is you meet familiar characters that act out of character. Good can be bad, and bad can be worse. Yet it all has that comfortable feel you know so well. Like biting into your favorite food that’s been made by someone else. Same but different.

I love that the art team has remained in place. Since the advent of DC’s Rebirth, many art teams have come and gone, or rotated around so that no given issue promises a consistent visual appeal. I grew up in an era when art teams stuck around for YEARS, not a handful of issues and then moved on. I appreciate the commitment Ibrahim Moustafa and Jordan Boyd have made to this series.
