Mark Millar Bashes Potential Justice League Movie

Millar isn’t exactly famous for his tact or accuracy in his public appearances, having made previous overblown statements about things to drum up publicity, but usually for his own work. Here, Millar argues that the characters are “in a really weird time” and over “75 years” old and points to specific characters that would appear to be silly onscreen. The Flash’s costume, with its “door handles,” is both silly and apparently necessary, while inconsistencies like Aquaman’s ability to talk with creatures underwater will end up “talking telepathically.” His biggest dig, however, is against the already filmed Green Lantern, whose powers let him defeat things from too far away, which isn’t “exactly raucous, getting up close and personal” enough for Millar’s idea of a good superhero film fight. He even puts in a little dig against some of DC Comics’ character names and character interactions, citing “if you’ve got a guy who moves at the speed of light up against the Weather Wizard and Captain Cold or whatever, then your movie’s over in two seconds.” Perhaps other villains would be a better idea.
Personally, I’m pretty unsurprised that Millar is saying things like this and don’t think his comments hold much weight. That being said, DC Comics has some pretty large obstacles to overcome if they would like to rival the Marvel movie franchises. We’ll see if Man of Steel can start us on a path to a Justice League film that is worthy of the characters.
But what about you guys? Do you think Millar has some genuine concerns? Does the idea of a Justice League movie excite you or make your eyes roll? Sound off in the comments below!
