Angstrom Levy is back with an army of Invincibles from other dimensions and he attacks Mark Grayson’s world in a quest to make the world fear him. The evil Invincibles run amuck the world and it’s up to the super heroes of the Image Comics universe to save the world and to Grayson to stop Levy in a last pitch battle. There are many casualties on both sides but who will prevail and will the world ever be the same again?

I was surprised at reading this issue. The scope of the issue was unexpected. A few months ago, in another review, I asked about what the creators of this series would do to shake the status quo. Well they did and I’m glad about it. It was so unexpected, that I thought that they this was an imaginary story. Much of the story is a super fight featuring several Image Comics’ characters versus variants of Invincible. Many characters die. A good slugfest is always a good diversion. Let’s hope that what readers have been diverted from when normal storytelling comes back next month is worth reading.

Ottley’s rendering of the various vignettes for this issue works. A lot of stuff happens. But unlike Morrison’s Final Crisis, the vignettes provide just enough information for the reader to complete the missing elements in one narrative. That’s good storytelling. Ottley’s work is violent and full of blood, but dynamic. Perhaps his simplified and almost cartoony style is what will keep readers from perceiving the full effect of the gore in this issue.
