Image Comics 20th Anniversary: Let the Festivities Continue!

Image has come a long way since its less than humble beginnings in 1992. What was once simply a joint venture of the comic book industry's top talent--creators attempting to cut their restrictive ties to the Big Two--is almost unrecognizable now, and the publisher is better off for it. Vestiges of Image Comics' origins are still discernible within series like Spawn and Savage Dragon, but the independent publisher has made a gradual transition in past years to refine its line of comic books into an eclectically heady amalgamation of mature, intelligent, entertaining, and humorous titles created by writers and artists not necessarily already well-established or renowned with average comic book readership. The result has been the realization of one the most powerfully unique and consistently intriguing publication lines in the medium's history.

This February, Image celebrated twenty years of groundbreaking comic books and kicked things off with the first ever Image Expo in Oakland, CA. But, here at the Bin, we'd like to keep this party going, and over the course of 2012, Image's twentieth year in the comic book business, we're going to be creating quite a bit of content, like my pet project Image Comics Alphabet, several Spotlights, some great reviews, and more, dedicated to helping readers discover which Image titles they ought to be reading and which Image titles have left their indelible stain on the comic book medium.
