As
the events surrounding the rise of Leviathan become public, it naturally draws
out the extra-normal investigators: reporter Lois Lane, Batman, the Question,
and… Green Arrow? Funny; never really looked at him as any kind of detective; more
of a street level vigilante.
But they’ve been given a lot to chew on, not the least of which is the presence of Steve Trevor, who is proposing theories of his own, which may or may not be red herrings. Or the ravings of man scarred by battle.
There’s no discounting the team effort of Bendis and Maleev. We’ve seen the level they’re capable of in other franchises, so it’s no great surprise to see them duplicate that again, within the DC Universe. I wouldn’t accuse them of retreading familiar ground, however. It’s not as if they’re telling the same story but with a different costumed character. The cast is different, and that makes the story different.
Maleev uses a monochromatic palette that works well here. Darker blues for the Batman and Lois scenes, bright oranges for others. It’s pretty much one or the other, which some might consider rather limiting, but it creates a unifying affect for the scenes he’s presenting, and allowing his rendering to challenge the color – effectively, I might add.
