Just when you thought DC Comics’ Flintstones series couldn’t get any better, it climbs to an even greater height. Or perhaps we should say time. Booster Gold, the time traveling former member of the Justice League of America, transports himself back to the Stone Age, when dinosaurs and Fred Flintstone roamed the land.

Booster had to go back in time because it turns out in his future, aliens have invaded, making the lives of everyone in Gotham City a living hell. In fact, Booster learns that he was the cause of the invasion and he’ll need to enlist the help of Fred and Barney to get back to his own time and set things right.

The writing is sharp and funny, with lots of historical jokes and fun references. It never really lets up, leaving the reader chuckling all the way through. Mark Russell took on a challenging task, bringing two different worlds together, and delivered the goods.

Rick Leonardi and Scott Hanna contribute some strong art, with everything from skyscrapers to dinosaur-laden villages rendered in excellent detail.

Meanwhile, a backup story takes us far into the future, into the time of the Jetsons. The Jetson matriarch is considering a drastic measure and the result is highly unexpected. A new series is forthcoming and this bizarrely dark, twisted story is the harbinger of what’s to come.
