This comic book is set in the early years of Spider-man. It takes a second look at events between his big fights. Here, Spider-man is still new on the scene and according to James Jonah Jameson, a menace to society. The tone of the story follows the old Spider-man routine. Peter Parker is bout of money or conflicted over something silly in his life. Trying to deflect the drama, he creates more. The drama affects both his super hero and civilian life. Dan Slott masters this formula well and uses it to tell interesting side stories about the early days of the web crawler. I like a good Spider-man story and this was one of them.
Pérez draws a rough Spider-man where the story and art are completely meld one into the other. The artwork does not over power the story at all. While the lines are rough, this new Marvel house style works well for characters like Spider-man and Daredevil. The inks feel minimal and the colours are simple. Unfortunately, this latest Spider-man series by Marvel is not as cheap under like the previous series.
